On July 22, 2006, 24 year-old Rachelle Phillips of Princeton, Kentucky, was crowned Miss Kentucky
2006. Rachelle is a senior at Middle Tennessee State University where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Her career goal is to attain a PhD in English and teach on the university level.
Rachelle's platform issue is "Literacy: Reading is Succeeding." She is a spokesperson for Reading
is Fundamental and a published author. Rachelle's children's book, Dinkey the Donkey, chronicles a young
donkey's struggle with reading and has been adopted by many schools throughout the state and surrounding areas for their literacy
programs.
As Miss Kentucky, Rachelle also serves as the spokesperson for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's
"No Ifs, Ands or Butts - It's the Law" program which educates youth about the laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco products
to minors and the penalties for breaking the law. She delivers this message to all age groups in schools throughout
the commonwealth.
